Claire Yandell

Claire Yandell is a painter, muralist, hand poke tattoo-ist, and screen printer originally from Chicago, IL (USA). Although she currently resides in Nevada City, CA. Art for her has always been a means of communicating. It’s a playful opportunity to be set free while also being a tool to share with the world all that's brewing inside. Having studied art for years, she is well practiced in the realism style. This is evident in her commissioned work and landscape/portrait pieces. But what truly inspires her is tackling bigger ideas in an abstract way. She uses her intuition and curiosity to guide her creations in whatever form they need to take. Whether it’s big emotions, raw beauty in nature or philosophical/psychological concepts she’s trying to better understand, painting these out into visuals is essential. To create is as necessary for her well being as water and air. Inspiration usually strikes with a color combination she can’t stop thinking about. Possibly even a layering of fascinating textures.  Her visuals begin with big sweeping motions. Always a very active person with a  lot of energy, she enjoys working with gestures of her body, letting dance music affect her process throughout. Play and experimentation are key aspects to what keeps her work evolving. Water, the element of emotions, is undeniably a heavy influence in this intuitive process. An ode to the ever changing flow one must surrender to.
